Google, the Internet giant and world’s largest search engine is considering entering Third Generation (3G) mobile telephony in India. According to The Business Standard newspaper Google is looking at broadband wireless access or BWA in the country and may participate in the auction.

India is set to begin an auction in January for 3G radio bandwidth. Foreign companies are also allowed to participate in this auction but Non-India companies will need to find Indian partners because foreign companies can buy up to 74% equity in such a venture.

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is offering spectrum both for 3G services and BWA and set a auction in the middle of January. BWA is known as Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access or WiMAX.
